RS PRO aluminium enclosures are an excellent choice of enclosure for protecting internal electrical parts and components from dust and water ingress. The enclosures consist of a base and lid, that can be attached via screws to create a secure seal and can be mounted to a wall or surface. This range of RS PRO aluminium enclosures are available in various of sizes and colours to suit multiple environments.

This selection of high quality and durable enclosures also feature a neoprene gasket and provide IP66 and IK09 ratings, ensuring the enclosures are protected from dust and water ingress as well damage from mechanical impact. With a wide service temperature range of -40°C to +100°C, these RS PRO aluminium enclosures will also offer excellent protection even in tough environments.

What is the IP rating?


IP (Ingress Protection) levels refer to the level of protection materials such as an electrical enclosure has against solids such as dust, debris and liquids. The first digit identifies the level of protection from a physical intrusion whereas the second digit identifies the level of protection from water and other liquids. A lower IP rating such as IP54 offers protection from limited dust ingress whereas a high IP rating such as IP78 can offer complete dust proof protection plus a continuous level of protection underwater.

This enclosure offers an IP66 rating, offering protection from dust ingress and water.

Can this enclosure be used outside?


This enclosure offers sufficient protection from water and dust ingress and can be used outdoors, however care should be taken to prevent the enclosure from being submerged in water for extended periods of time.

If I modify the enclosure will the IP rating remain the same?


Any modifications made to the enclosure will subsequently reduce the IP protective level.
