It does double duty, thanks to a delayed thermal tripping mechanism for overload protection and an electromechanical tripping mechanism for short-circuit protection. Type-D characteristics mean it trips when the supply current is 10 to 20 times its 2A rating, so it can handle very high inrush currents, such as you get from large motors. This device accommodates rigid or stranded conductors and can be easily attached to a busbar, so you've got installation options.
