Eaton Residual Current Circuit Breakers (RCDs) - FRCdM Series Types B, B+ and Bfq
The FRCdM series of residual current devices from Eaton form part of the xEffect range providing the highest RCD protection for both people and appliances. These devices allow for permanent indication of actual electrical leakage with built in digital features. These types B, B+ and Bfq RCCBs detect AC pulsating, DC residual and smooth DC residual currents.
Type B RCCBs are the standard type and are sensitive to all residual current flows up to 1 kHZ. Type B+ devices are sensitive to all residual currents while also being equipped with a special tripping curve that limits the trip current to max. 420 mA for frequencies up to 20 kHz (Type B+ also meets superior fire protection regulations according to VDE 0664-400). Type Bfq devices meanwhile can tolerate system-induced earth leakage currents at higher frequencies up to 50 kHz.

What type of RCD do I need?
An RCD is a protective and potentially life saving device designed to keep electrical installations protected from nuisance trips, short circuits and overloads, whilst also protecting against electric shocks and electrocution when there is bare or faulty wiring, or earth leakage. The device will automatically cut out the power supply when a fault is detected.
Fixed RCDs are commonly installed in a fuse box and can protect multiple circuits. RCDs located within a consumer unit are mostly passive which allows household appliances to re-establish normal operation when the circuit power is reset.
Socket-Outlet RCDs provide individual protection to the person who is in contact with the equipment, making them an integral tool for electricians. They can be used in place of a standard socket outlet. Socket-outlet RCDs are either active or passive. They are latching in operation so are not ideal for power tools which do not require a restart when the circuit is restored.
Portable RCD plugs also only provide individual protection to the person who is in contact with the equipment. They plug-in to any standard socket, and the appliance is then plugged into the RCD. Portable RCDs are mostly active and unlatch when any abnormality is detected. Ideally suited for use with outside power tools which could become dangerous if they were suddenly reactivated.
