    When working in an environment where loud or repetitive noises are prevalent, hearing protection is an essential part of PPE to ensure employees do not damage their hearing. These earmuff style ear defenders reduce and deflect loud noises by cupping and protecting the ears. Each ear defender has an SNR (Single Number Rating) to ensure it can be used at the appropriate noise levels to ensure it works effectively in reducing the risk of hearing damage. Ear defenders or ear protection as part of PPE workwear is generally used in industries where noise reduction is essential like construction, manufacturing, production, marine and aircraft, heavy engineering, and much more.

    Do ear plugs block out sound?


    Ear plugs reduce the amount of sound coming through from loud or repetitive noises that could potentially damage an individual’s hearing or cause hearing loss. They do not completely block out noise, however, when selecting the correct earplugs, it can reduce the risk of damage to hearing.

    When should ear plugs be worn?


    Generally, ear protection should be worn when working with loud or repetitive noises that measure above 85 decibels over an 8-hour time period. There are, however, parameters that are set by the OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) that consider the exposed time period to noises over 85 decibels and when hearing protection is absolutely essential.
