Connector covers are a type of protective cap designed to physically protect electrical connectors from damage when disconnected.
What are connector covers used for?
Connector covers are used to protect the pins of connectors that are exposed when having no cable attached. They protect connectors from dust and other contamination, as well as with new cables, equipment and other applications where a connector needs protection. Connector covers may be made from in either plastic or metal to help shield the connector from EMI (electromagnetic interference) issues. In addition, many styles of connector cover also come with an attached chain that can be secured to the chassis.
Types of connector covers
There are two main types of connector covers: press-fit and slide-on connector covers. Slide-on connector covers are typically used for military-standard connectors as they are durable and connect using an easy sliding mechanism. Press-on covers are used for fibre connectors as they protect against dust and foreign bodies.
